Content & Compliance Policy

This policy establishes clear guidelines for any content submitted to or displayed on the LGBTQIA+ Directory website and its affiliated listings.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Maintain a professional, safe, and inclusive environment that reflects the mission of the Directory
  • Ensure compliance with platform rules, web-hosting standards, and legal restrictions
  • Protect the Directory’s reputation and community members from inappropriate or non-compliant content

This applies to all listing images, descriptions, logos, event flyers, external website links, and in-world locations promoted through the Directory.

Content Standards

The following are not permitted in listings or associated visual materials:

1. Pornographic or Explicit Content

  • Visible nudity intended for sexual display
  • Genitals exposed or emphasized
  • Simulated sexual acts, sexual positioning, or implied sex
  • Fetish imagery presented in a sexualized or explicit manner
  • Adult toys, kink gear, or BDSM equipment shown in a sexual context
  • Sexualized advertisements or “adult services” promotions

2. Suggestive or Adult-Leaning Imagery

Content that may be allowed in Adult regions of SL is not automatically acceptable for the Directory, including:

  • Semi-nudity intended to entice or sexualize
  • Erotic body focus (buttocks, groin, etc.)
  • Poses typically associated with adult content
  • Flyers or logos using sexual taglines or innuendo

These items will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

3. External Links

Links included on listings must:

  • Not lead directly to pornography websites
  • Not embed sexual content or adult advertisements
  • Be accessible to the general public (no paywall adult platforms)

Problematic links may result in listing suspension until corrected.

Review & Enforcement Structure

Moderation Committee

The Moderation Committee is responsible for:

  • Reviewing all new listings prior to approval
  • Re-inspecting existing listings for compliance with updated standards
  • Flagging images, descriptions, links, and categories that violate content guidelines
  • Providing clear recommendations for revisions
  • Collaborating with the Public Relations Committee during follow-up inspections

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations Committee supports enforcement by:

  • Conducting in-world inspections
  • Assisting listing owners in updating non-compliant content
  • Verifying that revisions meet Directory standards
  • Supporting quality control and brand alignment
  • Documenting inspection outcomes for transparency

Both committees work closely together to ensure each listing:

  • Represents our community respectfully
  • Follows the Content & Compliance Policy
  • Meets visual and descriptive quality expectations

Final decisions, including warnings, suspensions, or listing removal, may be made by the President or designated Board authority.

Compliance Expectations for Listing Owners

Listing owners are responsible for ensuring:

  • All submitted images adhere to non-explicit standards
  • Logos and flyers do not contain sexual content
  • In-world locations linked to the Directory are in compliance with SL’s maturity ratings
  • Staff and agents representing their listings follow basic decorum

Failure to comply may result in:

  • Request for revision
  • Temporary unlisting
  • Permanent removal from the Directory (in repeated or severe cases)

The LGBTQIA+ Directory reserves the right to deny or remove listings that jeopardize community safety, reputation, or standards.
