Content Review Standards: Strengthening Safety, Professionalism & Community Trust
How the Moderation & Public Relations Committees Are Working Together to Support Listings Under Our Updated Policy
The LGBTQIA+ Directory continues to grow as one of Second Life’s most trusted resources for community spaces, creators, and LGBTQIA+ residents. With that growth comes the responsibility to ensure that everything displayed on our website reflects professionalism, inclusivity, and compliance with platform and hosting requirements.
To support that mission—and protect the Directory, our listings, and our community—we are introducing a strengthened Content & Compliance Policy. This policy provides clear guidelines for listings that may contain or suggest pornographic or sexually explicit material.
This update is not about censoring sexuality or adult spaces.
It is about:
✔ Keeping the Directory in compliance with website hosting and SL platform rules
✔ Protecting our brand and community reputation
✔ Ensuring the Directory remains safe and accessible for all users
✔ Supporting adult-focused listings in presenting themselves professionally
Why the Updated Policy Was Needed
Because the Directory is a public-facing website—not inside an Adult region—it must follow:
- Hosting provider standards
- SL community rules
- U.S. content accessibility guidelines
Explicit imagery or graphic sexual content can create significant risks, including:
❌ Hosting account suspension
❌ Policy violations
❌ Reputational damage
❌ Reduced accessibility and discoverability
❌ Exclusion from partner networks or search placements
The new policy protects the Directory from these risks—while still supporting adult-oriented LGBTQIA+ spaces with fair, consistent, and respectful standards.
How Listings Will Be Reviewed Moving Forward
The Moderation Committee will be conducting a full review of:
- All current listings
- All upcoming or newly submitted listings
Their goal is not to remove LGBTQIA+ adult content, but to ensure that the images, text, and presentation displayed on the public website follow our updated guidelines.
Examples of materials that may require modification include:
- Explicit sexual imagery
- Graphic nudity
- Adult-only fetish visuals
- Marketing language that is sexually explicit rather than descriptive
Adult themes are still allowed—explicit presentation is not.
Moderation + Public Relations: A Collaborative Review Process
To ensure fairness, accuracy, and consistency, the Moderation Committee will work directly with the Public Relations (PR) Committee at every step.
Together, their responsibilities will include:
Moderation Committee
- Identifying content requiring adjustment
- Applying the policy consistently and objectively
- Documenting review decisions
- Guiding listings toward compliance
- Helping maintain Directory-wide brand safety
Public Relations Committee
- Supporting listing owners with rewording or content adjustments
- Providing examples of compliant descriptions
- Conducting inspections to confirm updates
- Ensuring each listing remains aligned with the Directory’s marketing standards
- Helping adult-focused venues present themselves professionally without losing identity
This partnership ensures that no listing is left guessing—and no one is unfairly impacted.
What This Means for LGBTQIA+ Adult Spaces
LGBTQIA+ adult communities are a vital, historic, and celebrated part of Second Life culture.
This policy does not remove, restrict, or limit those spaces.
Instead, it ensures:
✔ Adult listings can remain visible
✔ They are protected from hosting/TOS violations
✔ They are represented in a professional, respectful manner
✔ They maintain equal footing with non-adult listings
✔ They receive direct support from two committees
We will continue to welcome adult venues, clubs, nightlife, kink spaces, and themed communities.
We simply ask that their public-facing listing materials follow the new presentation guidelines.
Transparency, Fairness, and Community Partnership
To prevent misunderstandings or concerns, we are committed to:
- A documented review workflow
- Clear definitions of “explicit content”
- Equal application of the policy to all listings
- An optional appeals process for listing owners
- Continuous collaboration between our committees and the community
Our Directory is at its strongest when we work together—and this update ensures continued growth, credibility, and long-term stability.
Questions or Concerns? We’re Here to Support You.
Whether you are an adult venue, a community center, a creator, or a support organization, our goal is the same:

If you need clarification or assistance updating your listing, both the Moderation Committee and PR Committee are available to help.
- Your visibility matters.
