The Monthly Honoree Spotlight Program is an ongoing recognition initiative of the LGBTQIA+ Directory of Second Life, created to celebrate the individuals, groups, and spaces that continually strengthen LGBTQIA+ community life across the grid.
Through this program, the Directory highlights residents whose leadership, creativity, advocacy, and service help make Second Life a more inclusive, welcoming, and vibrant environment for everyone.
💖 About the Program
The LGBTQIA+ Directory was founded on the belief that community thrives when contributions are seen, valued, and shared. The Monthly Honoree Spotlight Program exists as a standing program dedicated to recognizing the people who build connection, foster belonging, and support LGBTQIA+ residents every day.
Honorees represent the diversity of Second Life itself — including creators, performers, educators, venue owners, activists, organizers, allies, and community leaders.
This program serves as a non-financial recognition initiative, complementing the Directory’s broader community support and outreach efforts.
⭐ Areas of Recognition
Nominees may be recognized for excellence in one or more of the following areas:
Community Leadership
Creating welcoming environments, mentoring residents, or strengthening community connections.
Creativity & Contribution
Artistic, cultural, or technical work that enriches LGBTQIA+ expression in Second Life.
Advocacy & Representation
Promoting visibility, equality, inclusion, and empowerment for LGBTQIA+ residents.
Service & Support
Providing emotional, social, educational, or structural support to individuals or groups.
📝 Nomination Process
The Monthly Honoree Spotlight is community-driven. Anyone within Second Life may submit a nomination.
Nominations are welcomed from:
- Directory users
- Venue and listing owners
- Community members
- Event organizers
- Committee recommendations
All submissions are reviewed using a standardized evaluation process designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with the Directory’s mission and ethical standards.
🏆 Selection & Review
Honorees are selected by the Directory’s established review body responsible for community impact evaluation. The committee follows clear safeguards, including:
- Conflict-of-interest recusal requirements
- Majority vote decision-making
- Written selection justification
- Documentation within monthly committee reports
This structure ensures consistent and unbiased recognition.
